Women’s Artistic Gymnastics
[ By Invitation Only ]

Within our Club Programme, we have gymnasts training at Club, Regional and National level. Many of these children started within the Club at Pre-school and Recreational level.

To train within this discipline is extremely demanding in terms of time, commitment, effort and courage, but it can also carry the most rewards.  Very high levels of attendance at training sessions is required in this section.

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics disciplines consist of Vault, Asymmetric Bars, Beam and Floor.

Chelsea on Women's VaultVAULT

This is an exercise completed over a vaulting table 125 cms in height. A springboard is used to assist the gymnast. It is an explosive and dynamic exercise, the aim of which is to complete a movement over the vault – often incorporating a series of twists or rotations over the vault, showing height, length and accuracy, culminating in a successful, balanced landing.

Asymmetric BarsASYMMETRIC BARS

This exercise is performed on two asymmetric bars. One set high and one low. The gymnast works between the two bars, swinging and turning. Skills are also performed where the gymnast releases and re-grasps the bar.

Women's Beam

BEAM

This piece of apparatus is a mere 10cm wide. It is 5metres in length and 125cm high. This apparatus takes a huge amount of courage and after years of training gymnasts can acquire the ability to perform jumps, spins and acrobatic elements, combined with dance and artistry. In competition, the routine must be between 70 and 90 seconds long.

Women's FloorFLOOR

This exercise is performed on a 12 x 12 metres sprung floor. The routine is choreographed to music enabling the gymnast to express themselves whilst performing dance, spins, leaps, jumps, acrobatic elements and tumbling. The routine lasts for between 70 and 90 seconds.
